Marvel’s Avengers – Sand Art Fan Tribute by Sand Artist Lawrence Koh (from Singapore)

Marvel's Avengers - Sand Art Fan Tribute by Sand Artist Lawrence Koh (from Singapore)
FINALLY ITS DONE!!! - After sacrificing lots & lots of sleep, I am now ready to present to you my Sand Art fan tribute to "Marvel's The Avengers"!!! I have tried my very best to include as many heroes as possible within this Sand Art film while trying to make it as epic as possible! Yes, everything here was created using SAND & MY HANDS!
Doing this Sand Art fan tribute has been a really interesting, inspiring & unique journey for me. Within this Avengers Sand Art film, I have tried tons of new techniques that I have never tried before while discovering much more than what I would have expected as a Sand Artist. I have combined a mix of styles according to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as well as the original comics, so as to try & bring a unique feel to all the heroes using my Sand Art.
Even though these heroes might be works of fiction, but to some kids or people who are fighting a strenuous real-life battle or facing traumas of bullying, sickness or daily challenges; these heroes & their stories inevitably transformed into real-life inspirations of strength, courage, teamwork, love, compassion, unity, acceptance, friendship (probably many more inspiring qualities too). To many people, they are not just fictionous characters but symbols of hope. Interestingly, as I see the creation of these heroes using countless grains of sand day after day, I realized that every single grain of sand actually matters alot; each playing their part in forming together all the heroes seen here.
We are all very much like these grains of sand isn't it? Each of us playing our own part & contributing to a better world. And we all have this power to achieve greater heights together. And with unity, we too can create miracles & heroes in our world.
I want to specially dedicate this Avengers Sand Art film to Wei Ming & Sanjay! Thank you both for inspiring this creation of mine!
I love the Marvel Heroes & Marvel Cinematic Universe films!!! After watching "Avengers: Infinity War", I can't stop thinking about this super awesome film for days & I simply can't get enough of the Avengers!!! Hence, I have decided to do a Sand Art fan tribute due to this fan craze I have! I can't wait for another year for the next Avengers film to be out!!! Argh LOL!!!
My wish is for this Sand Art film to hopefully inspire YOU to achieve your dreams & to brave all challenges in life! Yes, I strongly believe, we can all choose to be heroes in this world in our own ways!
May you be well & happy!

"Great Compassion" - A Guan Yin Sand Art Tribute by Lawrence Koh from Singapore

"Great Compassion" - A Guan Yin Sand Art Tribute by Lawrence Koh from Singapore

I hereby prayed that everyone achieved happiness, good health, success, peace and love. Irregardless of who you are, may you be free from all sufferings and attain everlasting happiness... Om Mani Padme Hum ཨོཾ་མ་ཎི་པདྨེ་ཧཱུྃ

Avalokiteśvara, also known as "Guan Yin" (觀音) in Chinese or "Chenrezig" (སྤྱན་རས་གཟིགས་) in Tibetan (Sanskrit: अवलोकितेश्वर lit. "Lord who looks down") is a bodhisattva who embodies the compassion of all Buddhas. Portrayed in different cultures as either male or female, Avalokiteśvara is one of the more widely revered bodhisattvas in mainstream Mahayana Buddhism, as well as unofficially in Theravada Buddhism.

Guan Yin is known for His Great Compassion because anyone who calls out for Guan Yin's assistance will be liberated from any suffering.

Sand Painting Sharing By Singapore Sand Artist Lawrence

Sandpainting is the art of pouring colored sands, powdered pigments from minerals or crystals, and pigments from other natural or synthetic sources onto a surface to make a fixed, or unfixed sand painting. Unfixed sand paintings have a long established cultural history in numerous social groupings around the globe, and are often temporary, ritual paintings prepared for religious or healing ceremonies. It is also referred to as drypainting.

Drypainting is practiced by Native Americans in the Southwestern United States, by Tibetan and Buddhist monks, as well as Australian Aborigines, and also by Latin Americans on certain Christian holy days.

In the sandpainting of southwestern Native Americans (the most famous of which are the Navajo (known as the Diné)), the Medicine Man (or Hatałii) paints loosely upon the ground of a hogan, where the ceremony takes place, or on abuckskin or cloth tarpaulin, by letting the coloured sands flow through his fingers with control and skill. There are 600 to 1,000 different traditional designs for sandpaintings known to the Navajo. They do not view the paintings as static objects, but as spiritual, living beings to be treated with great respect. More than 30 different sandpaintings may be associated with one ceremony.

The colors for the painting are usually accomplished with naturally coloured sand, crushed gypsum (white), yellow ochre, red sandstone, charcoal and a mixture of charcoal and gypsum (blue). Brown can be made by mixing red and black; red and white make pink. Other colouring agents include corn meal, flower pollen, or powdered roots and bark.

The paintings are for healing purposes only. Many of them contain images ofYeibicheii (the Holy People). While creating the painting, the medicine man willchant, asking the yeibicheii to come into the painting and help heal the patient.

When the medicine man finishes painting, he checks its accuracy. The order and symmetry of the painting symbolize the harmony which a patient wishes to reestablish in his or her life. The accuracy of a sandpainting is believed to determine its efficacy as a sacred tool. The patient will be asked to sit on the sandpainting as the medicine man proceeds with the healing chant. It is claimed the sandpainting acts as a portal to attract the spirits and allow them to come and go. Practitioners believe sitting on the sandpainting helps the patient to absorb spiritual power, while in turn the Holy People will absorb the illness and take it away. Afterward, when the sandpainting has done its duty, it is considered to be toxic, since it has absorbed the illness. For this reason, the painting is destroyed. Because of the sacred nature of the ceremonies, the sandpaintings are begun, finished, used and destroyed within 12 hours.

Recognizing Thoughts & Emotions

"When these subtle thoughts of jealousy and pride remain unrecognized, they grow into overwhelming emotions that cling to one's own happiness and to hostility toward others. The root of all this is the grasping at a self. Because we strongly believe in this self, we feel alarmed by everything that threatens it. When others criticize us, we get angry."

Forest Fables @ Esplanade by Singapore Sand Artist Lawrence

Forest Fables @ Esplanade

India’s myriad folk tales  are filled with interesting stories of enchanted creatures, such as the one  about the jackal that fell into a vat of indigo dye, who discovered the power  of his new appearance and declared himself leader of all animals. Then there’s  the ruler of all birds, the proud and selfish Hornbill who was disliked by his  people and tricked into giving his precious crown to the Bulbul.
From the treasure trove of  India’s much loved fables comes these two fascinating tales of mischief and  trickery, each with some lessons to teach. In this production for children,  join renowned storyteller Kamini Ramachandran as she tells the enchanting  stories of The Indigo Jackal and The Hornbill and the Bulbul,  taken from the Panchatantra and Jataka collections of fables  respectively. Enter a captivating world of colour and imagination as sand  artist Lawrence Koh breathes life to these magical stories through a  combination of technicoloured sand art and light while Raghavendran, Kumaran  and Serene bring the sounds of the forest right to you with their unique  musical compositions and soundscapes.
